Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has officially awarded the Northern 380kV Bulk Supply Point (BSP) project, located in AlUla in the Western Province of Saudi Arabia. This strategic infrastructure project aims to enhance the region’s power transmission capabilities and support growing energy demand.

The contract, valued at SAR 897 million (USD 239 million), has been awarded to Al Gihaz Contracting Company, a prominent Saudi firm known for delivering high-voltage power projects across the Kingdom.

Project Overview and Scope

The project involves the construction of a new indoor 380/132kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), which will be designated as the Northern BSP. This advanced facility will play a critical role in strengthening the national grid and improving the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission in the region.

Key Components and Systems

The scope of work includes the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the following major components.

  • 380kV and 132kV GIS systems
  • 502 MVA power transformers
  • High-voltage reactors
  • State-of-the-art protection and control systems
  • Substation automation systems (SAS)
  • Integrated telecommunication systems
  • Comprehensive security and cyber security systems
  • Full civil and electro-mechanical works

The Northern BSP project is part of SEC’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand the national electricity infrastructure in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives. Once operational, the substation will significantly enhance transmission efficiency and grid resilience in the AlUla region.
