Chinese energy companies ENN Natural Gas and state-owned Zhenhua Oil have entered into long-term agreements with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, further strengthening energy cooperation between the UAE and China.
A long-term supply deal has been signed by ENN Natural Gas for approximately one million metric tons of LNG annually over a 15-year period. This contract represents ADNOC’s largest LNG supply agreement with a Chinese entity to date. ENN shared the news on its official WeChat account on Saturday, highlighting that the agreement advances its strategy to diversify energy sources and enhance the security of its supply chain.
A proposal to acquire the remaining shares of ENN Energy—of which it already owns 34.28%—has also been made by Shanghai-listed ENN Natural Gas. The deal, valued at around $7.65 billion, would consolidate ENN’s position as a major player in China’s clean energy market.
Meanwhile, ADNOC was also approached by Zhenhua Oil, which finalized a separate five-year LNG deal set to commence in 2026. Under this arrangement, Zhenhua will receive up to 12 cargoes annually. According to a source familiar with the matter, deliveries will be made directly to Zhenhua's upcoming LNG terminal in Rudong, Jiangsu province. Some shipments will be priced against the Japan Korea Marker, while others will use Brent crude as the pricing benchmark.
Zhenhua, already a strategic partner with ADNOC in Abu Dhabi, is constructing its first LNG import terminal in Rudong, which is expected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2026.
The growing relationship between ADNOC and its Chinese partners was further underscored last week when ADNOC CEO Sultan Al Jaber inaugurated the company’s new office in Beijing. During his visit, three LNG supply agreements were reportedly signed with Chinese firms, according to a source who attended the event and a broadcast by China-Arab TV based in Dubai.
Although additional details about the newly signed agreements were not disclosed, ADNOC and Zhenhua Oil did not respond to requests for comment over the weekend.
These recent developments reflect the deepening energy collaboration between the UAE and China as both nations look to secure stable, long-term energy partnerships amid a changing global energy landscape.
