BYD and Saudi Aramco Technologies Collaborate to Boost EV Innovation and Environmental Performance

Saudi Gulf News:

A joint development agreement was signed between BYD and Saudi Aramco Technologies Company (SATC), a fully owned arm of the Saudi-listed energy giant, to co-develop breakthrough technologies aimed at enhancing the efficiency and eco-friendliness of electric vehicles (EVs), according to a joint announcement made by both firms on Monday.

The development of advanced powertrain systems and the use of low-carbon fuels are being actively pursued by Aramco, as part of its broader efforts to redefine transportation efficiency. This initiative is being led by Ali A. Al-Meshari, who oversees Technology Coordination and Oversight as Senior Vice President at Aramco.

In an earlier development from February, a major milestone was reached when a contract was inked between BYD Energy Storage and Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to construct what is set to become the world’s largest grid-scale energy storage project. The agreement places the responsibility of supplying a massive 12.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity on BYD, marking a significant step in Saudi Arabia's renewable energy ambitions.

By forming partnerships with global technology leaders like BYD, Saudi firms are actively driving forward the nation’s push for sustainable innovation across both transportation and energy sectors.
