ENGIE Middle East Announced Revival of Sohar 1 Project in Oman

The Project location is in Sohar, Sultanate of Oman. The Owner/Operator is ENGIE STOMO (SUEZ TRACTEBEL OPERATION & MAINTENANCE OMAN L.L.C.). The Power Generation capacity is 585 MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT). Desalination Capacity is 150,000 m³/day using Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) technology. Recommissioned Capacity is 405 MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) as per new operational mode. Switch from CCGT to OCGT will Mark a strategic shift in operations.

Original PPA Expiry was May 2022. New PPA Signed was in October 2024. The Commercial Operation Date (COD) was March 28, 2025. This project will add 405 MW critical capacity to Oman’s electricity grid. To supports national power security, this will reinforce Oman's commitment to diversified energy. This will enhance sustainability through lifecycle extension by utilizing the existing assets. The OCGT less efficient than CCGT but quicker to deploy in emergencies or peak demand.
