In a significant move towards accelerating the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy transition, Safeer, a joint venture between Total Energies and Zahid Group, has officially signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Golden Chicken. The agreement involves the development and installation of an advanced solar power plant at Golden Chicken’s site, further reinforcing both companies’ dedication to sustainable energy initiatives.
With a total installed capacity of 5.18 megawatt-peak (MWp), equivalent to 4.13 MWac, the new solar plant is set to become a substantial contributor to clean energy production in the region. The facility is expected to generate more than 13 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually. This output will significantly reduce the company’s dependence on traditional energy sources while helping to meet its environmental and sustainability goals.
The impact of this solar installation extends beyond energy production. By offsetting the use of fossil fuels, the project is projected to eliminate approximately 6,710 tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions every year. This is a meaningful step toward supporting Saudi Arabia’s environmental targets and aligns perfectly with its Vision 2030, which emphasizes carbon reduction and sustainable development.
To ensure optimal performance and reliability, the project will utilize 8,160 high-efficiency photovoltaic (PV) modules integrated with advanced inverters. These components will be complemented by a solar tracking system, allowing the panels to follow the sun’s path throughout the day. This feature is key to maximizing solar energy capture and overall system efficiency.
This landmark collaboration between Safeer and Golden Chicken reflects a shared vision and strong commitment to promoting renewable energy within the Kingdom. By investing in clean energy technologies, both organizations are playing a vital role in helping Saudi Arabia transition toward a more sustainable and low-carbon future.
As the country continues to ramp up its renewable energy infrastructure, partnerships like this serve as important milestones in achieving national and global climate objectives. The Safeer–Golden Chicken solar project stands as a model of forward-thinking, eco-conscious business practices, paving the way for others in the industry to follow.
