Project Update: Rayis–Rabigh $640 Million Independent Water Transmission Pipeline (IWTP) Project Progress 87%

Saudi Water Partnership Company announced in their "X" account that Rayis-Rabigh Independent Water Transmission Pipeline project progress reached 87%. It will be operational in Q2 of 2026.

Project Update: Rayis–Rabigh Independent Water Transmission Pipeline (IWTP) Project

This is the first project which is under construction on BOOT (Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer) model. The private sector will involve in these kinds of projects in future because this project is first step.

The Key Specifications of project is given below table:

FeatureDetails
Capacity500,000 cubic meters per day (m³/day)
Pipeline Length150 km
Pipeline MaterialCarbon steel (diameter > 2 meters)
Storage Capacity340,000 m³ (via two 170,000 m³ reservoirs)
Renewable EnergyIntegrated 13 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park
Estimated Cost2.4 billion SAR ($640 million)

Strategic Significance:

  1. The system is fetured on bi-directional flow. The pumping systems are designed in such a way that can pump in both directions and can supply water in Mecca and Madinah region.
  2. This project is in line with vision 2030. It is developed by Al-Khorayef Water and Power Technologies and Grupo Cobra. It is aimed to involve local content and highly efficient operation to make reduction in electricity.
  3. A 13 MW Solar Park is also a part of this project to reduce carbon emissions in atmosphere and to produce clean energy.

Current Progress:

Now a days "Testing and Commissioning" activity is going on. The project is shifted from heavy civil work to system integration. The focus is to ensure solar park, pumping stations, and control systems are aligned before COD (Commercial Operation Date).

The COD is set in Last Week of June 2026.

The project total value was $640 million.
